India has won the election of the United Nations Human Rights Council. India will be a member of the council for three years from January 2019. There were 18 new members of the Human Rights Council voting in the United Nations Assembly of 193 member countries, in which in the Asia-Pacific region, India got 188 votes, which was the highest in all the candidates.
In order to become a member of the Council, a minimum of 97 votes is required. There are five countries to be elected from this category and five countries have claimed.
